Berth Marker form
Use the Berth Marker form to add berth markers (such as bollards or labels) to a berth, or to edit existing berth markers.
Keep in mind:
For distances to appear in the Move Distance attribute in XPS, berth markers must be defined as bollards and must have the same names that are defined in the berths.txt file. The berths.txt file must also specify the ingress and egress values for each bollard. The names of these ingresses and egresses are important; they must match the names of the vertices in Yard Editor. If the names do not match, XPS cannot calculate distances properly. Other ingress and egress information is equally essential for distance calculations.
It is best practice to physically place the berth markers one by one inside the berth ranges once the berth ranges are defined.
All changes to existing bollards must be made in Yard Editor using this form; you cannot change existing bollard positions by importing a revised berths.txt file into Yard Editor.
For more information about berth markers, see Unspecified Berth Markers view (on page 1).
To add or edit a berth marker:
Right-click a berth and select Add Berth Marker.
Click on the berth on which you want to place the berth marker.
When prompted to add a new or edit an existing berth marker, select:
Existing--to add a berth marker that is already defined in the berths.txt file.
Do the following:
From the Marker list in the Place Berth Marker form, select the marker that you want to place on the yard map.
Click Save.
Right-click the marker that you placed and select Edit Berth Marker.
In the Berth Marker form, verify that:
The marker Type is Bollard.
The Ingress Vertex and Egress Vertex match the ingress and egress specified for this bollard in the berths.txt file.
New--to add a berth marker that is not yet defined in the berths.txt file.
Do the following:
In the Name field of the Berth Marker form, enter a unique name for the marker. Within a yard model, a berth marker name must be unique.
For distances to appear in the Move Distance attribute in XPS, the Name must match the name that is defined in the berths.txt file.
Although you can enter a string of up to 128 characters, N4 truncates the string to 8 characters.
From the Type list, select Bollard.
For distances to appear in the Move Distance attribute in XPS, berth markers must be defined as Bollard.
From the Ingress Vertex and Egress Vertex lists, select the vertices that provide access to the marker.
If the list does not provide an appropriate vertex, you can add a new vertex using the Vertex form (on page 1).
Click Save.
Next steps:
Define the yard vertices that are close to your bollards and make sure that the names of these vertices match the names of the vertices defined in the berths.txt file. You should connect the yard vertices, but you do not have to connect the bollards and the vertices. Simply define the vertices almost in the same position as the bollards inside each berth.
Follow the steps to Apply yard model changes (on page 1).
XPS should display accurate distances in work queues.
